What is a signal pin?

A signal pin marks the one place where cellular service returns after you have been without it. No pin is saved while you already have a signal. Wi-Fi alone, such as at a mountain hut, does not save a signal pin.

Does recording continue after I lock the screen?

Turn on Signal pin or Track, and set Location to Always with Precise Location on. While recording, the location indicator stays at the top of the screen. If you quit the app, recording stops, and Location does not start it again.

Can I get back to a pin?

The HUD shows the straight-line distance and direction to the pin you choose. It does not follow trails. It does not account for ridges or valleys. It also does not guarantee that you will have a signal there again.

The map is blank, or it says I am outside the area

Download the map for the region you are heading to while you still have a connection. Only one region is in use at a time. Where you have not downloaded a map, trails and peaks are not shown.

What is the difference between maps of Japan and maps outside Japan?

Maps of Japan can be downloaded without a subscription. Regions outside Japan are downloaded with a monthly or yearly subscription. After you cancel, overseas maps already on the device keep working. A subscription is required for a new download and for an update. Manage and cancel the subscription in App Store subscription settings.

Where is the recording saved?

Pins, tracks, and downloaded maps stay on this iPhone. There is no account. A track can be handed off as GPX through the sharing feature on the device.

Can I use this in an emergency?

This is not a substitute for an emergency call or for rescue. Where you have a connection, use a phone or the usual way to call for help.
